American International School Bangkok: Know The Difference


Not all international schools have the same curriculum, and since there are thousands of them worldwide, many different ways to teach are meant to meet the needs of both locals and expats. Bangkok has more than 70 international schools. American international schools Bangkok cater to all ages, from preschool to college. There are American, Canadian, British, and more generic international schools, and their curricula are based on one or a combination of these systems. Furthermore, several of these schools provide the acclaimed International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, which can result in an IB diploma.

International schools usually have very high-quality facilities and teaching, with small class sizes. Thai studies is a required subject in both government and international schools. Most international schools offer activities outside the school day, such as sports, arts, dance, and community service.

There are many different kinds of international schools all over Bangkok, each one is different. However, researchers have found some things that all international schools share. These things are: 

  • They don’t use the curriculum of the host country. 
  • They are known all over the world. 
  • The Council of International Schools (CIS) is responsible for managing them.
  • They teach both expatriates and locals. 
  • They hire both locals and people from other countries as faculty.
  • They have a population that moves around a lot. 
  • They speak more than one language and come from many different countries.

Differentiating between American International School Bangkok and others:

American schools:

The first American schools were set up in capital cities worldwide to meet the educational needs of American citizens working in embassies or for private companies abroad. International schools in the United States Schools are designed to teach a core curriculum that prepares children for American schools, colleges, and institutions. 

The American international school Bangkok year begins at age 4 with kindergarten and ends with grade 12 (age 17 or 18). As with England’s National Curriculum, English is at the centre of learning and ensures that every student is fluent.

There is no American curriculum like there is in English schools. Instead, each state or district in the US sets its education standards. A lot of schools will be linked to regional bodies that accredit schools. Because there is no single curriculum, many schools modelled after the American system focus on core American values and have a lot of freedom in teaching. 

British international schools:

The fact that there are so many British schools in so many places. There are more than 2,000 British schools across the globe. These schools are among the many international schools around the world.

Even though many of these schools follow the British national curriculum, they are all very different in how they are set up and how good they are. This is due to the fact that British schools outside of the UK are run by private companies that are not governed by the government. The National Curriculum of England is one of the education systems people worldwide trust the most. To be officially recognized by the UK Department of Education, British international schools must be checked out by one of the approved inspectorates.

Schools may also have ties to groups like COBIS, NABSS, or BSME, which help schools ensure their standards align with what the UK government wants. Any school you want to apply to should let you download or ask for a copy of their most recent inspection report. The English language is at the centre of the curriculum, making sure that students can speak and write fluently in the most common language in the world.

Canadian international schools:

Many primary and secondary schools across the world, like American international schools Bangkok use the curriculum of one of Canada’s provinces. At dozens of schools in more than 30 countries, mostly Canadian teachers and staff use Canadian teaching materials to give the children of Canadian expats and locals a good education.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Schools:

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a set of four programs that teach students ages 3 to 19 how to think critically and independently and ask questions carefully and logically. The International Baccalaureate Organization oversees over 5,000 schools worldwide that offer IB programs. The IB’s four programs address a student’s educational needs from the age of three to the age of nineteen. These are the shows:- 

  • Primary Years Programme: 3 to 12 years old
  • Middle Years Programme: 11 to 16 years old
  • Diploma Program: 16 to 19 years old
  • Program for 16–19-year-olds interested in a career

People have been moving around the world since the beginning of time, and International schools have been around since then to help with this problem. As the British Empire grew around the world, British schools popped up everywhere to provide a consistent education for the children of diplomats, soldiers, and other staff.  

The same event has occurred as the United States’ influence has spread around the world. American schools are now in most of the world’s major cities, like Bangkok. The main difference between American international schools in Bangkok and British schools is that American schools need a set curriculum. American schools tend to follow a certain education board, but they still have much more freedom in teaching than schools in England do with the National Curriculum.

Even within these categories, schools can be different, so make sure to look closely at the cultures of American international schools in Bangkok and other international schools and think about what kind of education you want your child to have. Choosing the type of school you want is OK, but make sure that the school you choose can meet your needs.
